Acting Up is Kaleidoscope’s new performing arts project exclusively for older people, aged 60 years and over.
Acting Up is all about giving older people the opportunity to get out, get active and get involved in the performing arts and in their community
It’s a chance for older people to make new friends, learn some new skills, have fun and take on some new challenges.
Over the next three years six Acting Up projects will take place in six different areas across Northern Ireland.
The areas are:
2012 - Newry and South Armagh
2013 - Belfast and Lisburn
2014 - Banbridge and Craigavon
Each Acting Up project will run for approximately twenty four weeks. The groups will meet each week for around two hours during which time the participants will have the chance to get to know one another better, to learn some new drama skills like improvisation and role-playing and to swap stories and explore some of the topics and issues that are important to them.
Each project will culminate with the group producing their own unique piece of theatre and performing it at a local arts venue in front of an audience made up of family and friends. The piece might be something which the group have devised themselves or an existing work, like a play by a recognised author. Don’t worry, if you don’t fancy treading the boards yourself there are lots of roles to get involved in behind the scenes.
The Acting Up project is free for participants and we offer lots of support like free transport for anyone who has trouble getting about and lots of other assistance to ensure that everyone who wants to take part can do so. All the venues we use for the projects are older people friendly and our tutors are all experienced professionals.
